IAFF Local S-15 Sister Anna Grudzinski Speaks to Fox 61 Regarding Cancer Awareness

IAFF Local S-15 member and UConn Fire Department Firefighter Anna Grudzinski was interviewed by Fox 61 about Breast Cancer Awareness Month.  Each October IAFF locals around the country raise money for breast cancer research by designing and wearing t-shirts that bring attention to this serious medical condition.

Firefighter Grudzinski also spoke on how breast cancer has personally hit home for our members at Uconn Fire Department (UCFD).  Sadly, in 2019 UCFD Lt. Heidi Vaughan passed away after a long and courageous battle with breast cancer. In Lt. Vaughan’s honor, all the proceeds of Local S-15’s t-shirt sales go directly to a wonderful resource that Vaughan was a part of — Breast Friends — an organization that ensures that no woman goes through a diagnosis of cancer alone.

Additionally, this coming legislative session Rep. Liz Linehan (D) hopes to bring to the floor legislation that will protect our members against breast cancer as there is an elevated risk for firefighters.
